Walker has helped people working towards recovery from mental health and substance use disorders for over a decade. He’s worked at all levels of care; from detox, inpatient and outpatient facilities to sober living and private practice. He has an understanding of the full and ongoing process of recovery from mental health and substance struggles.
Walker helps clients develop self-compassion and self-knowledge to replace shame, judgment and internalized-stigma. He understands that disordered substance use is a coping strategy for the hurts and traumas we endure through our lived experiences. He works with clients to move away from harmful beliefs and coping strategies towards healing ones.
Walker takes a multi-disciplinary approach, meeting clients where they are, helping them to identify hurdles and empowering them to get to where they want to be. He sees the installation of hope and self-worth as vital components in making changes in a person’s life. He believes anxiety, depression, and chaotic substance use, are all indicators of disconnection. His aim to help his clients reconnect to themselves, their loved ones, their communities, and their world. Walker uses his clinical training and professional experience to help clients move from destruction to recovery.
